Oxygen test

Oxygen gas can be identified using a glowing splint. Light a wooden splint, then blow out the flame so that its tip remains glowing. Place the glowing tip into a test tube or other container of the gas.

A positive result is that the splint relights. This happens because oxygen supports combustion, allowing the glowing wood to burst back into flame.
